TRANSFERRING TO ORCHARD VALLEY

Students transfer to Orchard Valley from public schools, independent schools, homeschooling, and other Waldorf schools, even in the later grades when a class has room. Grades 2 through 8 include an assessment, which sets up a transition plan. Submit an application any time; it stays on file for 2 years.

What this looks like in practice

A child may arrive reading and doing math at the level of classmates. Music, French, cursive, handwork and artistic work are where Orchard Valley gives more attention, so a new student may need to catch up there. Your child visits and completes an assessment so placement fits their age and progress.

Children rarely struggle with the move. In small, carefully planned classes, teachers treat each student as an individual. Many students say they knew on the first day that they would be appreciated here. Parents notice it at home: a child who talks about school, not about getting through it.

Five children sit and lie near a small campfire beside a rocky stream, holding sticks with food over the flames.
